Jase Roemeling and his son, Ethan, both of Luverne, enjoyed sunny skies and warmer temperatures Wednesday, May 27, with a fishing outing at Schoneman County Park south of Luverne.
Temperatures topped out at 81 degrees, ending weeks of cloudy skies, rain showers and below-normal temperatures. The area last recorded 80-degree temps May 2 and 3.
Fishing is one activity best done in nice weather.
“It’s fun,” Roemeling said of fishing over the noon hour. “Usually they (the fish) bite on anything so the kids can catch them.”
On Wednesday, however, the blue gill, crappie and perch were successfully eating the Roemelings’ wax worm bait and eluding the hook.
Eleven-year-old Ethan said catching a fish and fishing with his dad are a “rare treat.” He said he especially enjoys watching the various birds and amphibians that reside at the park.
On Wednesday the Roemelings shared the pond with several families of Canada geese.
