Vehicle crashes and burns Saturday night

Emergency crews responded to a fiery crash on Highway 23 around midnight Saturday in western Rock County. According to the Minnesota State Patrol, Michael J. Buchert, 49, of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, suffered non-life threatening injuries after his car left the roadway and hit a sign. His 1999 Ford rolled over into the west ditch near the intersection of Highway 23 and County Road 20 and burst into flames. Garretson Fire and Rescue personnel responded and put out the fire before it spread to nearby cornfields. According to the report, alcohol was detected as a factor in the crash. Buchert was taken by ambulance to Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls.
