Uithoven Addition lots are shaping up on the city’s west side with curbs being poured Tuesday morning.
The future twin home subdivision is on the west edge of town on the south side of Dodge Street.
Three cul-de-sacs will provide 15 lots for twin homes to provide a total of 30 residences.
Henning Construction submitted the low bid at $851,744.15 for 1,200 linear feet of sanitary sewer line, 2,000 feet of water main, 2,200 linear feet of curb and gutter and 1,200 tons of paving.
However, a $36,000 change order was approved at the Sept. 10 council meeting to cover additional costs related to wet soil conditions.
Stabilization rock needed to be used in place of existing spongy soil material to support sewer and water lines in trenches.
According to discussion at this week’s City Council meeting, water and sewer infrastructure is now installed and the trenches have been fortified with rock and trench fabric.
Streets have had subgrade material put in place and are getting ready for concrete and curb and gutter. Paving may start later this week or next.
Henning is also working on the retention pond southeast of the development that will hold back storm water before it drains into Poplar Creek.
The new subdivision is on schedule to be finished this construction season, and the city intends to seek bids this fall from developers interested in building the twin homes next year.

Background
In March of 2018, the city paid $170,000 for the two acres that formerly housed the Mike and Vi Uithoven residence. The structures have since then been removed and the ground was prepared for development.
The plat shows a potential street from the west edge of the development that could connect with Main Street near RCO, but that plan has been abandoned.
Engineers determined that bridges and culverts would be too costly through this wetland area, which is better left untouched.

Reisch Addition development update
The stub street of Walnut Avenue near RCO will be developed as three residential lots known as the Reisch Addition, named for the late Marcel Reisch whose farm acreage once occupied that ground. The area is available for developers to submit proposals.
