U of M Extension and SWROC's Winter Crops and Soils Days Feb. 1-4

The Southwest Research & Outreach Center (SWROC) and University of Minnesota Extension will host Winter Crops and Soils Day Feb. 1-4 in Montevideo, Luverne, Lamberton and Fairmont, respectively.
Winter Crops and Soils Day is a public event highlighting current University of Minnesota research that is specific to southwestern Minnesota. Leading experts from the university will present information and answer questions.
The Winter Crops and Soils Day programs will feature presentations on agricultural economics and cost management, soil fertility and nutrient management, aphid resistance, weed management, abiotic factors limiting crop yields, the weather’s impact on yields and a panel discussion on where it is safe to cut crop inputs to reduce production costs.
Speakers from the University of Minnesota’s Research and Outreach Centers and St. Paul Campus and University of Minnesota Extension include Paulo Pagliari, Jeff Strock, Axel Garcia y Garcia, Bruce Potter, Bob Koch, Jeff Gunsolus, Tom Hoverstad, Don Nitchie, David Bau, David Nicolai and Lizabeth Stahl.
Winter Crops and Soils Day locations and times are as follows:
•Monday, Feb. 1, at the American Legion in Montevideo from 1 to 5 p.m.
•Tuesday, Feb. 2, at the Pizza Ranch in Luverne from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.
•Wednesday, Feb. 3, at the Southwest Research & Outreach Center in Lamberton from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.
•Thursday, Feb. 4, at the Knights of Columbus in Fairmont from 1 to 5 p.m.
Registration will begin 30 minutes prior to the given start time. No lunch will be served at the afternoon programs in Montevideo and Fairmont. The full-day programs in Luverne and Lamberton will include lunch and feature expanded presentations and longer Q & A sessions.
SWROC’s Winter Crops and Soils Day is open to the public. Pre-registration is required. Registration for the programs in Montevideo and Fairmont is $25 and includes refreshments and handouts. Registration for the programs in Lamberton and Luverne is $35 and includes refreshments, handouts and lunch.  Continuing education units for certified crop advisers have been applied for.
