The Luverne Area Chamber and participating businesses will host the 18th annual Trunk N Treat on Thursday, Oct. 31.
Participating merchants will hand out Halloween treats from 4 to 5:30 p.m. from the backs of decorated cars, SUVs and pickups.
“This is a great time for kids of all ages to make their way up and down the street seeing each other and collecting candy,” said Chamber Director Jane Wildung Lanphere.
The Chamber and its member businesses started the downtown Halloween tradition 18 years ago as a way to offer a safe venue for trick-or-treaters and families.
Several years ago the format changed from Main Street merchants dispensing candy outside their doors to a Trunk N Treat setup that invited a broader group of businesses and organizations to set up downtown.
As of Monday, more than 30 businesses and organizations were signed up, and Lanphere was expecting several more.
“Let’s make it a fun Halloween for children,” she said in a Chamber email Monday. “Thanks for supporting all the great things happening in Luverne.”
Chilly weather is forecast for Thursday and participants are advised to dress warmly.
