Three special olympians compete over weekend

Three athletes from Luverne competed at the state 2019 Summer Games June 21-23 at the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul. Derek Deutsch (left), Nikole Koffron and Josh Mallon competed in the track and field games. Deutsch placed second in the long jump, third in shot put and 50-meter dash. Koffron finished second in the shot put, third in the long jump and fifth in the 100-meter dash. Mallon earned a fourth-place finish in the long jump, fifth in the shot put and 100-meter dash. In addition to the weekend of competition, the three Olympians also took part in the Healthy Athletes program, where they participated in various screenings.
