Three Rock County 4-H’ers were among 52 youth across the region who attended the daylong Southwest BLU leadership retreat March 2 at Southwest State University in Marshall.
Janica Oechsle and Emma Deutsch attended as participants while Josie Scholten, a Minnesota State 4-H Ambassador, assisted with leading the retreat.
BLU — Building Leadership and Understanding — encouraged youth to make and strengthen relationships, expand communication skills, learn how to engage in civil discourse, and reflect on the people with whom they are already connected.
“4-H uses these retreats to help youth learn valuable leadership skills they can apply in their communities and make connections with people from other parts of the state,” said Extension educator Jacquie Lonning.
