A high-speed chase Saturday late afternoon ended in a field south of Kanaranzi where three people were taken into custody.
Arrested were the 29-year-old driver, Brett John Hoffman, Sioux Falls, and his passengers, 30-year-old Shawn Thomas Lewis, Sioux Falls, and 26-year-old Delphia Paris Wright, whose last address was San Diego, California.
They were traveling in a 2016 Hyundai, a rental vehicle with Colorado plates, on County Road 3 around 4:45 p.m. when a State Trooper activated his squad lights for a traffic violation.
Hoffman reportedly sped away, leading law enforcement through southern Rock County blacktop and gravel roads, at times reaching speeds over 100 mph.
The report states that items were tossed out of the vehicle during the pursuit.
The Hyundai at one point hit a cow and ended up in a field near the intersection of County Road 3 and County Road 1.
The chase ended just before 5 p.m. after the trooper pitted the Hyundai in the field and the driver and passengers were taken into custody without incident.
According to the Minnesota State Patrol, there was a warrant for Lewis’ arrest out of Minnehaha County for what was reported as “dangerous drugs.”
A search of the three individuals turned up $5,668 in cash, and a warrant was obtained for a blood draw on the driver.
Also recovered were 1.7 grams of marijuana, 2.7 grams of meth, three vapor pens that tested positive for THC, an Oxycontin pill and numerous other items of drug paraphernalia.
As of Monday, all three were in the Nobles County jail in Worthington.
The Rock County Sheriff’s Office assisted with the incident.
