Four months after contract talks between representatives of the Luverne School District and the Luverne Education Association stalled, a two-year agreement was reached earlier this month.
School board members unanimously approved the 2015-16 and 2016-17 contract at a Nov. 9 special meeting.
The total package over the two years equates to $595,638.
“Negotiations went well,” reported board member and personnel committee representative Katie Baustian.
The two groups began talks in April and May but did not meet again until September. The delay was due in part to superintendent Gary Fisher’s retirement and the hiring of new superintendent Craig Oftedahl on July 1.
After Oftedahl started, the groups met twice, once in September and the final time on Nov. 2.
They agreed to increase:
•teacher salaries 2.4 percent in the first year of the contract and 2.5 percent the second year.
•staff development hourly wage from $22 to $25 and extra curricular salaries increase 2 percent each year.
•an additional $112,950 for health insurance benefits over the two years of the contract.
The increases are retroactive to July 1.
