Surprise performance at the Carnegie Cultural Center

Lead Summary

Local music fans were treated to a surprise concert Sunday evening by the University of Sioux Falls wind ensemble, which performed at the Carnegie Cultural Center in Luverne as part of a weekend tour. “They asked us if they could do a concert, and we didn’t have much notice to publicize it,” said Janine Papik of Luverne Street Music, which leases the Carnegie building. “But it was just beautiful. It was just so fun to see them dressed in tuxedos and all black.” She said Luverne Elementary music teacher Morgan Smith invited the group to perform in the Carnegie when she learned they were looking for a stop on the return leg of a concert tour that took them to Minneapolis Friday. Smith is a USF graduate and former member of the school’s student wind ensemble. She is also a voice instructor at Luverne Street Music.”
