Students, senior citizens meet for annual spell-off

Elementary students from Luverne and Hills-Beaver Creek schools met senior citizens Thursday, May 12, for a friendly Intergenerational Spelling Bee at the Senior Center.
Each was asked to spell words such as guillotine and silhouette until only the top three spellers remained as place winners in each of the two age groups.
Senior winners were Madge May, first, Kay Franklin, second, and Louise Stegemann, third. Elzora Ott was fourth.
Student winners were Liam Raymon, H-BC, first; Kester Grimm, Luverne, second; and Logan Ommen, Luverne, third. Tryg Gangestad, Luverne, came in fourth.
The students and teachers were invited to join the seniors for a noon meal after the competition was over.
