Local artist McKenzie Wieneke led a group of aspiring young painters through a step-by-step process of creating a winter scene on canvas Tuesday night, Feb. 23
Working in a semi-circle of tables in the lower level of Lord Grizzly Art Gallery on Luverne’s Main Street, the students participated in the Community Education Class, “Paint a Winter Wonderland.”
They started by reading a wordless  book, “Polar Slumber,” in which each student took a turn telling a story for each page.
After a snack and juice pouch, they rolled up their sleeves and started painting.
The students followed Wieneke’s directions and applied their own brush strokes toward an end result that featured two polar bears watching the northern lights from their perch on an iceberg.
“It’s funny how each personality comes out on each painting,” Wieneke said. “We can all follow the same process, but they all come out so differently.”
