Luverne City Administrator John Call announced last week that Luverne’s used ladder truck has been sold to the fire department in Miller, South Dakota.
Luverne had purchased a newer ladder truck last summer for $550,000. It’s a 2010 Rosenbauer 101’ platform firetruck. A new one costs over $1 million.
Since then the old ladder truck has been listed for sale on national websites with no feasible offers.
A new opportunity for Luverne’s old truck developed in December after Luverne electric utilities supervisor Rick Hoftiezer connected with his brother, Ron Hoftiezer, who is on the Miller, South Dakota, fire department.
Luverne received $30,000 from the Miller Fire Department for its 30-year-old ladder truck;
The city of Luverne purchased the 1986 model 11 years ago for $100,000 from the Maple Grove Department.
