A final touch in the library’s recent renovation project is a hand-painted mural designed and painted by Savage artist Greg Preslicka.
When completed, the south and west walls of the library’s main floor will have colorful prairie flowers and bison images reflecting Rock County’s natural habitat.
Luverne High School art teacher Chris Nowatzki brought his students to the library while the murals were being painted so they could understand how a small-scale art design gets translated to large-scale art on the walls.
In addition to the high school students, local preschools and other groups came through to observe the prairie images taking shape on the walls.
Time-lapse photographs of the mural in progress can be viewed on the library’s Facebook page.
The Rock County Community Library commissioned Preslicka to do the artwork with help from the Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund through Minnesota’s Clean Water and Legacy Amendment and the Environment and Natural Resources Trust Fund.
