Sixth-graders chosen for children's honor choirs

Lead Summary

Four Luverne Middle School choir students were selected by audition to participate in the American Choral Directors Association’s honor choirs.
Sixth-graders Elise Ferrell, Pierce Cunningham, Ashton Sandbulte and Casey Sehr traveled to St. Andrew Lutheran Church in Mahtomedi May 7.
Guest conductor was Mary Alice Stollak, retired director of choral activities with Michigan State University.
Students were divided into two choirs made up of 150 girls and 115 boys chosen out of hundreds who auditioned for the children’s choir.
The local students joined other singers in grades 4-6 for a six-hour rehearsal in preparation for a public concert.
Each choir member was sent music in advance and was provided links to music files to help them rehearse before the event.
The ACDA is a nonprofit music education organization dedicated to the advancement of choral music. The Minnesota office is located in Apple Valley.
