Rock the River trip set for this Saturday

The Rock River might be just right for some water adventure this Saturday.
The second “I Rocked the River” canoe and kayak water trip is scheduled for this weekend.
The first such event took place in 2017, but excessively high water levels last year jeopardized participant safety and forced organizers to cancel the event.
This year the river is high, but not too high, according to Jane Wildung-Lanphere, executive director of the Luverne Area Chamber of Commerce and one of the event planners.
“It’s higher than typical, but not dangerous,” she said. “It should be pretty fast and fun.”
Participants will meet at the Luverne City Park and be transported to the launch site north of Luverne.
Four separate morning launch times will space out the water travelers.
The trip down the river will return to the City Park and should last three or four hours.
A light breakfast and a snack will be served to the canoeists and kayakers during two short breaks along the way.
New this year will be an After Row Party at Take 16 Brewing Company.
A hot meal will be served at the brewery and entertainment will be provided.
“It should be a nice way to wrap up the day,” Wildung-Lanphere said.
The goal of the event is to promote the Rock River as a regional option for water recreation.
Organizers have scheduled July 6 as the rain date if needed.
