National “Coffee with a Cop Day” is Friday, Oct. 7, and Rock County Sheriff Evan Verbrugge is inviting area residents to join him that morning.
The national movement aims to build trust between law enforcement officers and the communities they serve, and Verbrugge said he hopes to have plenty of coffee guests.
“This is an opportunity for the public to meet with law enforcement face to face and talk with us about any issues that they might have,” Verbrugge said.
“Some say that they don't know us, so this is that opportunity to meet without it being a negative situation.”
He said typical public exposure to law enforcement is during incidents where they’re victims of crimes or being arrested for crimes.
“It is usually a negative situation when law enforcement shows up,” Verbrugge said.
“Here you can meet us because you want to meet us. This is community policing.”
The local Coffee With a Cop will be from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 7, in Sterling’s Café and Grille, Luverne.
