Rock County provides good view of 'Christmas Star'

Dozens of people drove up to the Eagle Rock Vista parking lot at the Blue Mounds State Park near Luverne Monday night for a view of the 2020 “Christmas Star,” the lining up of the planets Jupiter and Saturn in the sky beginning just after sundown. According to Astronomy.com, Monday night was the closest the two planets appeared to one another in about 800 years and could be the astronomical origin of the Star of Bethlehem that guided the wise men.
Best view in Minnesota for what was dubbed the “Christmas Star” was in Rock County. Michael Sims of Anoka researched areas without cloud cover and relatively easy to access to an elevated area to take pictures. The parking lot over looking Luverne provided an ideal location with both local and out-of-town visitors to view the planets.
