Rock County 4-H'ers compete at state horse show

Nine Rock County 4-H’ers qualified for the Minnesota State 4-H Horse Show Sept. 16-19 at the Minnesota State Fairgrounds in St. Paul.
They were among 725 4-H’ers at 82 county fairs to earn state trips to compete in performance and game riding classes along with the events of horse judging, speech, demonstration, hippology, speech, horseless horse and horse-related events.
Seven of the local 4-H’ers rode horses at the state show with four earning Top 10 ribbons in the game events.
Andrea Severtson competed in Grade 13. She finished fifth in both pole weaving and key race.
Thea Richards earned two ribbons in Grade 12. She received seventh in both the jumping figure eight and key race.
Kallie Chapa entered Grade 8 events finishing sixth in barrels, sixth in jumping figure eight and third in pole weaving.
Ayden Bonnett earned ninth in Grade 6 poles, tenth in key race and ninth in jumping figure eight.
Meranda Fick participated in Grade 13 western and English performance events. Lizzie Chapa participated in Grade 9 performance events.
Joni Vander Beek participated in Grade 9 gaming events. She was also the county’s grand entry rider.
Gretchen Jacobsma participated in the Grade 6-8 horseless horse and Annaliese Braucht participated in the Grade 6-8 horse-related events.
