Rock County 4-H'ers compete at 2019 State Fair

Fifty-one 4-H’ers represented Rock County at the recent Minnesota State Fair.
Hannah Kruse, a member of the Livewires 4-H Club was named a Minnesota Livestock Breeders Association and MN State Fair scholarship recipient during the annual event.
Thirty-one 4-H’ers exhibited livestock during the Aug. 23-25 encampment. More than 2,895 animals were exhibited.
Local results including the 4-H’er’s name, exhibit category and class placing/ribbon are:
Beef: Karly Kruse, Hereford, registered junior yearling, fourth place; Leah Kruse, Hereford registered junior yearling, third place;
Trevor Mente, maintainer registered junior yearling, fourth; Lanae Elbers, commercial fall calf, second; Drew Fick, commercial summer yearling, purple, first; Justin Mente, cow and calf all other breeds, registered, purple, grand champion all other breeds cow/calf pair and reserve champion overall cow/calf pair; Whitney Elbers, steer Shorthorn plus registered, fifth; Hannah Kruse, steer Hereford registered, fifth; Claire Popkes, steer Maine Anjou registered, fourth; Donavon Leenderts, market heifer, eighth; Dalton Popkes, steer slick-shorn, second; Michael Kinsinger, steer crossbreds and other breeds, purple, second; Dylan Mente, prospect calf steer, third.
Dairy: Joshua Raak, crossbred and other breeds fall calf, blue; Andrea Honken, red and white fall calf, red; Jacob Raak, Ayrshire 2 year old, purple; Caleb Raak, Guernsey 2 year old, purple grand champion Guernsey cow, reserve champion Guernsey net merit.
Goats: Cassie Flanagan, senior yearling meat breeding doe, blue.
Poultry: Chloe Schoeneman, chickens white egg layers, red; Tory Knobloch, chickens brown egg layers, red; Grace Sandbulte, ducks market pen, red.
Rabbits: Andrea Luitjens, Californian intermediate doe, blue; Dennie Sandbulte, Mini Rex junior doe, red.
Sheep: Tacey Baustian, lightweight market lamb, black face, purple; Trey Baustian, middleweight market lamb, black face, purple; Christian Kruse, market lamb, black face, blue, reserve champion market lamb carcass.
Swine: Trista Baustian, Yorkshire registered February breeding gilt, blue; Will Stegenga, market barrow Yorkshire registered, blue; Tyler Fick, market barrow crossbred, blue; Halle Hough, market barrow crossbred, blue; Aleck Schoeneman, market barrow crossbred, purple.

Twenty 4-H’ers competed in the general exhibit encampment for Rock County Aug. 29-31.
All projects are judged in groups with judges awarding exhibitors individual ribbons. Purple is the highest level of achievement.
