Rock County’s Relay For Life will use a new format this summer for its June 13 fundraiser for the American Cancer Society.
Teams and supporters will gather at Take 16 Brewery on East Main Street in Luverne for the event that also serves to support cancer survivors and to remember those who died of cancer.
An organizational meeting will be at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, April 11, in Luverne Pizza Ranch.
Teams can register by May 1 at RelayForLife.org/RockCountyMN or by calling 877-957-7848. Corporate sponsors can call Lisa Ehlers at 507-283-4463.
For the past two years the annual Relay has been in the Luverne Elementary School commons, and for many years prior to that it was at Luverne City Park.
This year’s Relay at the brewery will bring back some of the old traditions (outdoors) and introduce some new ideas, such as bingo and a “Beer’d Contest” for the longest, grayest and most stylish beards, with categories for best moustache and best goatee.
The evening begins at 5:30 with a meal (freewill donations accepted) and team activities.
A Garden of Hope will honor cancer survivors, and luminary bags honor loved ones.
Relay For Life raises money for the American Cancer Society to support breakthrough therapies and research for a cure and help patients gain access to treatment and community support.
Since 1985, Relay For Life events in the U.S. have raised more than $6.3 billion.
