After not being offered for years, Luverne Community Education brought back a time-honored tradition operated by the National Football League for 56 years.
The punt, pass and kick competition returned to Cardinal Field Wednesday afternoon, Aug. 19.
In a local twist, the second- through eighth-grade students competed to see who could throw, punt and kick a football the greatest distance.
Winners were determined by their combined distances in all three categories.
The NFL stopped sponsoring the local competitions in 2017 along with the national punt, pass and kick championships.
Luverne Community Education presented trophies in two age groups — second- through fourth-grade and fifth- through eighth-grade.
Results for fourth-grade and younger: first Tinley Vandenberg, second Maddox Schomacker, and third Korbin Miles.
Results for fifth-grade and older: first Coy Thone, Kelby Schomacker, and third Carter Sehr.
Terry’s Trophies, Luverne, sponsored the football-shaped trophies.
