The 2015 Rock Area Kids Against Hunger Food Packing Event will be Nov. 5 and 6 in the Luverne High School gym.
Students from Luverne, Southwest Christian High School, Edgerton Christian Elementary and Hills-Beaver Creek will pack food for the local food banks and for people around the world.
During last year’s Kids Against Hunger packing event in Luverne, over $16,000 was raised and more than 104,000 meals were packed in less than 12 hours. Many meals stayed in Rock and Pipestone counties, and a large shipment was sent to Zambia.
“We are looking forward to surpassing last year’s amount, but much help is needed,” said Kids Against Hunger volunteer Becky Ossefoort.
“Since every bag of food needs to be paid for prior to packaging, we need the community’s help.”
She said donations are being accepted in jars around town at local churches, businesses and at school. She said $1.50 pays for six meals.
“This community event had a huge impact on our children last year,” Ossefoort said.
“The children were educated on poverty-stricken countries around the world while learning about the hungry locally and the starving worldwide. I’ve had many of my kids at church ask if we were going to help again because they are very excited.”
Financial donations can also be sent to Rock County Ministerial Association at 304 N. Fairview Dr., Luverne, MN 56156. The Facebook page is RockAreaKAH.
