Optimists host fishing derby

The Luverne Optimist Club Fishing Derby Sunday, Aug. 25, at the Minnesota Veterans Home pond attracted more than 40 participants along with their parents and chaperones for prizes, raffles and hot dogs and, of course, fish. Winners this year included Ty Klingenberg for largest fish, a 10 1/2-inch crappie, Aiden Meyeraan for second largest fish, a 9 1/2-inch crappie, and Keyona Klingenberg for third largest fish, a 9-inch crappie. Kirby Berning was noted for catching the most fish (seven), Maddox Evans caught a 7 1/2-inch perch and Harper Vanden Hoek caught the smallest fish, a 3-inch sunfish. More than 100 people attended, including Optimist Club board members Stan Steensma, Travis Pierce, Carol Morgan, Mike Schacht and Keith Aanenson.
