Lori Sorenson

The Luverne Optimist Club volunteers delivered sand to local backyards Monday, May 21, marking the group’s 40th year of sand deliveries.
According to club member Don Amos, sand deliveries to local family sandboxes was the first community service project the Optimist Club did when the group first organized in Luverne in 1978. For last week’s deliveries, the group met at the Howling Dog before setting out to deliver sand, which was donated by W&N Construction, Luverne.
On hand for the May 21 deliveries were (from left) Mike Schacht, Keith Aanenson, Stetson Baloun, Joey McTighe, Steve Smedsrud, Don Amos, Codie Zeutenhorst, Stan Steensma, Levi Small, Travis Pierce and Thomas Kindt.
