Marie Opheim’s favorite holiday of the year is Halloween.
She loves to decorate her home in Hills on 413 East 4th Street inside and out.
Opheim lived in the country until she married Mark in 2008.
“I love decorating in town where people can drive by and see it,” she said.
“Every year I add something different to my Halloween decorations. I have totes filled, but every year I buy something new.”
This year she added witches to her outside display that she started working on during the first week of October.
“Halloween is such an awesome holiday,” she said. “It’s for everybody; you don’t have to be a kid. This is the only holiday everybody can be a kid. Just put on face paint and stop at my house on Halloween and I will give you candy.”
She said her Halloween joy started in her childhood.
“When I was a kid, my brother Greg (Ox) Johnson and I would go trick-or-treating in Magnolia,” she said.
“We stopped at every house in town and would be out until 10 p.m. We lived in the country so my parents would hang out at the old Magnolia Steak House until we were done.”
Her husband helps with the decorating but prefers not to hang what looks like humans from the house. “I have nothing against things climbing on the house. It just freaks me out,” he said.
