Luverne High School students broke up this week’s colder temperatures by embracing winter with the kickoff of Snow Week Monday.
Coronation took place Monday afternoon in the LHS gymnasium.
Vying for the queen title were Michelle Arevalo, Claire Baustian, Alexa Chesley, Anita Cole-Kraty, Madi Flom and Mela Jarchow.
King candidates were Isaiah Bartels, Colby Crabtree, Graham Cunningham, Brody DeBates, Gunnar Oldre and Jordan Winter.
A fun activity, “How Well Do You Know Your Snow Week Royalty?” took place before the LHS Student Council unveiled which two students faculty had chosen to reign over the week of activities.
Two representatives each from the freshman, sophomore and junior classes answered questions naming one of the 12 candidates’ names as answers.
The answer to the question, “I have been to half of the states in the U.S.,” revealed the Snow Week queen as Claire Baustian.
King Gunnar Oldre fit the question, “I illegally brought potatoes into Canada.”
Teachers selected the 12 seniors as Snow Week Royalty based on their positive leadership and involvement in activities during the years in high school.
Dress-up days and activities continue through the rest of the week.
