Luverne residents owe the city of Luverne nearly $8,000 in utilities and assessments for miscellaneous services.
At their Sept. 8 meeting, City Council members heard a report from Finance Director Barb Berghorst about the unpaid bills.
She said unpaid utility bills for 2015 so far total $5,806.03 and unpaid services for snow removal, mowing, tree trimming, etc. total $2,008.91.
If the bills aren’t paid, residents will be assessed for the services. A public hearing has been set for 5 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 13.
Letters will be mailed to residents alerting them of the amount they owe and of the public hearing, in case they need to appeal the charges.
Berghorst said $7,800 in unpaid bills is about average for a year’s worth of billing.
“It’s a small amount, considering we bill out over $6.5 million every year,” she said.
