The coronavirus pandemic is now impacting the fall season of Minnesota high school sports.
The Minnesota State High School League governing board voted Tuesday afternoon to move the football and volleyball seasons to spring 2021.
Girls’ tennis, cross country and other fall sports will be allowed to begin as scheduled, but with significant modifications to their seasons, based on decisions made by the MSHSL.
Cross country will be limited to no more than two events per week, and there will be a limit of three teams at each event.
Girls’ tennis will also be limited to no more than two contests per week, and only two teams can participate at each tennis event.
While football and volleyball teams will be allowed to hold practices this fall, no games will be played until spring.
The MSHSL is developing a “four-season” plan for the upcoming school year with football and volleyball competing from mid-March to mid-May.
Traditional spring sports will move to a summer schedule that competes from May until mid-July, according to a tentative plan released by the MSHSL Tuesday.
The Star Herald will have more updates and local reaction to these changes in next week’s edition.
