A Hills man was airlifted to a Sioux Falls hospital Wednesday, July 21, after colliding with a passenger car at an intersection in Martin Township.
Kelly Demuth, 65, was eastbound on 31st Street as a 2008 Mercury Grand Marquis, driven by Richard Teig, 66, of Slayton, was traveling south on 20th Avenue.
According to the Rock County Sheriff’s Office, Teig stopped at the intersection and proceeded south, failing to yield the right of way to Demuth.
Teig struck Demuth with the front of his passenger vehicle.
The crash occurred at 6:38 p.m., and glare from the evening sun may have been a factor in the crash.
The impact threw Demuth from the motorcycle, resulting in serious injuries.
According to the report, excessive speed, distracted driving and alcohol were not contributing factors in the crash.
Teig and his passenger, Brittany Ruiter, 29, were not injured.
The crash report indicated Demuth was not wearing a helmet.
The Grand Marquis and the 1962 motorcycle were severely damaged and both towed from the crash scene.
