About 70 local musicians from 15 to 89 brought their talents to the Winterfest stage Saturday night with their community cantata, “Sing Christmas,” in the American Reformed Church sanctuary.
Greg Spath and Terri Ebert narrated between numbers.
“What better way to express joy than through singing familiar carols and songs of the season,” they said. “Today we celebrate in song. We sing of love and hope and peace and especially joy.”
Jennifer Bakken directed the choir and James Jarvie directed the orchestra for the cantata, accompanied by Janine Papik.
The Carnegie Minstrels are made up of community vocal instrumental musicians who perform throughout the year, but their main event is at Christmas when their Winterfest production benefits the Rock County Emergency Food Shelf.
The event was funded in part by a grant through the Luverne Area Community Foundation with support from the city of Luverne and Luverne Area Chamber and Convention and Visitors Bureau.
