Marching band season debut

The Luverne High School Marching Band performed for a home football game audience at halftime Friday night in what was their first official performance of the competitive season. The theme this year is “Totally 80s” and includes “Any Way You Want It,” by Journey, “Take on Me,” by Aha, “Careless Whisper,” by George Michael and “Thriller” by Michael Jackson. Luverne band members will march in Saturday’s King Turkey Day Parade in Worthington, and they’ll travel to Waseca Sept. 23 to march in the parade and in field competition. The rest of the season includes the Tri-State Band Festival in Luverne during the day Sept. 30 and the Brandon Big Sioux Review that evening. The final competition will be in Sioux Falls Oct. 7, and they’ll perform in the Youth in Music Band Championships at US Bank Stadium in Minneapolis Oct. 14. Students began practicing in mid-July and now are meeting at 7 a.m. to practice before school every day.
