Luverne takes second in sub-section tournament

Sixteen speech students advance for chance at a state tournament berth

Twenty-seven Cardinal speech team members participated in sub-section competition in Adrian March 29.
They took second place as a team with 21 speakers advancing to final round competitions.
Students were competing for spots in this Saturday’s section tournament. In order to qualify, speakers had to finish in the top four during the final round at sub-sections.
Sixteen Cardinal speakers advanced to the section in Marshall.
At section competition, the Cardinal speakers will need to place in the top three of the final round in order to qualify for the state speech meet April 15-16 at Lakeville North High School.
Students advancing to Saturday’s section competition include Samantha Ykema, Knute Oldre, Melanie Rittenhouse in Discussion; Paul Witte III, Marisol Hartshorn, Storytelling; Dylan Thorson, Shane Berning, Extemporaneous Speaking; Jacinda Hustoft, Shelbie Nath, Creative Expression; Ryleigh Beers, Informative Speaking; Gunnar Oldre, Humorous Interpretation; Alexa Chesley, Hannah Ehlers, Duo Interpretation; Derek Krueger, Great Speeches; Hannah Hoogland, Extemporaneous Reading and Megan Rogers in Drama.
Also competing in the final round were Autumn Nath, sixth in Poetry; Nicole Hoogland, sixth in Extemporaneous Reading; Xavier Carbonneau, fifth, and Jonah Louwagie, sixth, in Storytelling; and Gryphon Norenberg, sixth in Informative Speaking.
