Luverne Student Council members served about 190 people for an all-you-can-eat pancake supper Saturday night featuring Chris Cakes Pancakes Catering from Sioux Falls.
Pancake chef Tim Cook entertained diners and those waiting in line by flipping pancakes from the griddle high into the air and onto paper plates of those waiting for their food.
Most of them hit their targets; some did not.
Those that hit the floor were collected into a small pile that later were used as playful Frisbees to sail across the room at unsuspecting students or parents.
The event served as a Homecoming Week kickoff, with Homecoming king and queen candidates working in the serving line.
It was also a first-time fundraiser for their Luverne Student Council organization.
Student Council adviser Jason Berghorst said the group didn’t make significant profit over expenses, but it was a good experience for students.
“It was a good outreach activity,” he said. “Just not a big money maker this year.”
