Shopko Hometown in Luverne will close its doors by June.
Local store employees were informed Monday of the closure affecting all Shopko stores nationwide.
“This is not the outcome we had hoped for when we started our restructuring efforts,” said CEO Russ Steinhorst, Green Bay, Wisconsin.
Hometown Shopko retail stores were owned by an affiliate of Sun Capital Partners.
Financial struggles prompted closures of the large Shopko facilities, and a Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing in mid-January meant the court-supervised auction of pharmacy assets.
Lewis Family Drug, Sioux Falls, purchased the Luverne Hometown Shopko pharmacy assets.
Lewis Family Drug operates a store in Luverne, where some Shopko personnel were offered employment.
Since January, company officials were seeking a buyer to take over the Shopko Hometown operations.
According to a press release from the Green Bay, Wisconsin-based company, it was unable to find a buyer and, as a result, an orderly wind-down of its retail operations began this week.
The liquidation process is expected to conclude in 10-12 weeks.
The Luverne location employs 23 full- and part-time employees.
The store opened at the South Highway 75 location in 1997.
