Luverne seniors direct growth of own leadership skills

Lead Summary

During the 2015-16 school year, a group of senior girls began meeting Thursday mornings to grow in their leadership skills.
Throughout the fall the group continued to progress, and the ideas of what they wanted to learn grew, according to school social worker Stacy Schepel.
Schepel and Amy Cook, family science instructor, advised the group.
As the students moved into the second semester, they were curious about colleges and all the extras that come with a post-secondary education.
This led the group to focus on several aspects of college such as roommates, financial aid, eating, studying, staying safe on campus and more.
The students invited guest speakers that could give them the expert advice needed to attend college.
Last week, during their last meeting, the students tie-dyed T-shirts and socks.
Through this activity the girls were reminded that sometimes they have plans for life, but sometimes they don’t always work out, and you just have to work through the situation … just like tie-dying.
