Luverne grad's book made into movie

Lead Summary

“When a stressed out nursing student covers a night shift in a hospital’s morgue, things start to become strange.”
This is a description of the horror film, “Insania,” which is based on a short story written by Luverne High School graduate Rona Vaselaar.
“I heard the story on the NoSleep podcast and I knew I had to make a film from it,” says director Derrick Childers, who adapted the story into a screenplay.
Vaselaar was happy to give Childers permission to use the story when he contacted her.
“I am overwhelmed by the fact that someone wanted to turn my story into a film, and I am very excited to see the product,” Vaselaar said.
“I have been very curious as to how this particular story would translate into another medium, and I have high hopes for its success.”
Vaselaar has had many of her stories made into Podcasts, but this is the first completed movie of one of her works.
The film premiered at the Long Center for the Performing Arts in Lafayette, Indiana, on Oct. 13, but Vaselaar was unable to attend because she’s a grad student in China at Hopkins-Nanjing University.
Vaselaar’s parents, Eric and Meredith Vaselaar, rural Adrian, attended in her place.
“We were thrilled when we learned that one of Rona’s stories had been adapted into a movie,” Meredith said.
“We decided to attend the premiere because she could not.  It was a lot of fun — even though I absolutely hate horror movies — and it was exciting to be able to see how the filmmakers adapted Rona’s story. It was certainly a new experience for us.”
