For the fifth year in a row, The Lake in southwest Luverne will be the place to be on the Fourth of July.
And each year the event, hosted by the Luverne Area Convention and Visitors Bureau, continues to grow.
“We have more sponsors this year,” said Luverne Chamber Executive Director Jane Wildung-Lanphere.
“Thanks to our generous sponsors, we are able to continue to offer more activities and have an even bigger fireworks show.”
Lanphere said about $11,000 will be spent on this year’s fireworks, making it the largest fireworks display at The Lake so far.
“It will be an even bigger bang for the bucks,” she said.
The fireworks will begin at 10 p.m. over The Lake.
Three new activities will be added to the July 4 attractions this year.
A live band, “Smooche with Tommy Binford,” will play before and after the fireworks from 8 to 10 p.m. and from 10:30 to 11 p.m.
Also new this year is a quaddleball tournament starting at 5 p.m.
“It’s basically a fun four-square game on a beach with a paddle and ping-pong balls,” Lanphere said.
Registration for the one person, double-elimination tournament starts at 4:30 p.m. Cash prizes will be awarded to the top four finishers in the tournament.
An air-conditioned indoor game room is another new addition.
Starting at 1 p.m., anyone is welcome to come inside and play card or board games.
The activities on Thursday begin at 8:30 a.m. with the Davis Lake Triathlon.
Inflatables open at 10 a.m. and open swimming, the food court and beer garden open at 11 a.m.
Sand castle, bean bags, log rolling and dock dog contest — all with cash prizes — will be staged throughout the afternoon with bingo under the tent from 6 to 8 p.m.
A full schedule of events is available in the June 29 Luverne Announcer and at luvernechamber.com.
“We’re just really excited for a full day of fun on the Fourth,” Lanphere said. “Thanks to our generous sponsors it should be better than ever.”
