A Main Street business in Luverne will close its doors by the end of the year.
Loopy’s Dollar Store manager Amy Krueger said Tuesday that owners Gary and Tom Ploeger of Pipestone recently announced the local store’s closure.
Sales on existing merchandise have already begun.
“It’s been a shock to everyone coming into the store,” said Krueger, who has managed the Luverne store for 16 years.
Luverne is one of the original six locations started by the Ploegers. Stores in Slayton, Windom and Madison, South Dakota, are also scheduled for closure.
Two stores — Pipestone and Rock Valley, Iowa — are not yet affected.
The Ploegers have not made public why the stores are closing.
They have had Loopy’s in Luverne for more than 20 years, and in 2010 they purchased the former Gabe’s clothing next door.
The Loopy’s building is owned by Curt and Marilyn Bloemendaal.
