Local students selected for girls, boys state

Two area students will be attending American Legion-sponsored camps next month.
Kiesli Smith, Luverne, will attend the American Legion Auxiliary Girls State June 11-17 at Bethel University in Arden Hills, Minnesota.
She is the daughter of Mike and Andrea Smith and will be a Luverne High School senior this fall.
Gabe Vis, Edgerton, will attend the American Legion Boys State taking place at the same time as girls state but at St. John’s University in Collegeville, Minnesota.
He is the son of Shawn and Karmen Vis and will be a high school senior at Southwest Minnesota Christian this fall.
The week-long state experiences focus on leadership and citizenship.
Girls State highlights the duties, privileges, rights and responsibilities of government practiced in the democratic society.
Boys State is a practical learning experience, which focuses on county and state government levels through mock exercises that promote leadership development.
The Hardwick American Legion Auxiliary is sponsoring Smith’s trip to Girls State. The Hardwick Legion is sponsoring Vis.
