Fundraising became more fun this fall for Generations members who are selling calendars featuring local models posing as movie stars.
Each month features a popular movie with local community members dressing and posing in a scene from the movie. The name of each movie and the local “stars” are included on each page.
Proceeds from the $10 calendar support the group’s efforts to build a new Generations center.
Renee Reu, Terri Ebert and Judy Fenske collaborated on the choice of calendar scenes and recruited characters to pose for the 12 pictures.
“Everybody was a ‘yes’ — very positive responses,” Reu said.
The three decided on movie scenes as this year’s calendar theme based on a similar project by the Winona Friendship Center.
Each movie chosen for the calendar passed a stringent test before it was considered.
Reu said Ebert and Fenske would name a movie, research various scenes on the Internet and, as a last step, Reu would have to watch any unfamiliar movies.
“I wanted a calendar in which my grandchildren can see me in a movie they can watch,” Reu said.
She is Mary Poppins for the April page in the 2020 calendar.
Costumes were borrowed from the Green Earth Players and Jim Juhl with Myhre Studio shot photos inside and outside the studio.
Ebert and Fenske paired with Generations meal site manager Lynette Hoiland for a scene from “Momma Mia.”
“It was just a fun little project,” Reu said.
The group printed 400 calendars, and they are available to purchase at the Luverne Area Chamber, The History Center and at Generations on East Lincoln Street.
A 2021 calendar is possibly in the works, Reu said.
“People are asking to be in it next year,” she said. “So there may be another one.”
Generations members voted last month to purchase the Terry and Mary Thone lot next to the meal site facility and construct a new building, which is estimated at $2 million.
