Rock County Library officials are promoting reading outdoors in a series of events called “Peaceful Park Summer Book Club.”
The one-hour events take place at 10 a.m. each Wednesday through the month of July at five different Luverne parks.
The first of five Peaceful Park events was at the Luverne City Park July 3.
“The idea behind this event is to use reading as a chance to get out and enjoy our city,” said Library director Calla Jarvie, who hosts the events.
“We have so many wonderful parks, and we have such a short time to really enjoy them.”
Peaceful Park reading eliminates the pressure of a traditional book club, where everyone has to read a certain book at a certain time, Jarvie added.
The park events promote “no pressure, and no discussion required.”
A light blue banner designates the reading location at each park. Participants can sit near the banner or on nearby park benches or park equipment.
Participants can discuss books or sit quietly together and read.
Scheduled events (all in Luverne) include:
•July 10, Riverside Park.
•July 17, The Lake.
•July 24, Kolbert Park.
•July 31, Evergreen Park.
Participants need to bring their blankets, chairs, beverages and books to the free events.
