LHS speech team takes third place

A smaller Luverne High School speech team competed Saturday at the Redwood Valley Invitational in Redwood Falls.
Eighteen students were among the 247 speakers from 23 schools that competed.
The team received a third-place trophy.
“We were missing at least four from the team due to the robotics competition in North Dakota,” said coach Caroline Thorson.
Nine members earned individuals awards. Red ribbons were given to speakers finishing two places out of the medals.
Results from the Redwood meet were as follows:
•creative expression: Solveig Tofteland, first place.
•discussion: Alexa Chesley, first.
•duo interpretation: Josie Golla and Mia Wenzel, sixth place.
•extemporaneous reading: Nicole Hoogland, fourth; Destiny Matthiesen, red ribbon.
•extemporaneous speaking:  Chance Tunnissen, first.
•humorous interpretation:  Gunnar Oldre, second;  Seno Chanthalangsy, third; Luke Thorson, fifth.
The next varsity competition is Saturday in Montevideo.
