Luverne’s Keith Luethje was honored this summer for 60 continuous years of service to the American Legion.
He was presented a Certificate of Continuous Membership that was “issued in grateful appreciation for faithful and dedicated allegiance to the ideals of the American Legion.”
The certificate recognized Luethje’s 60 years of membership in good standing.
“And be it further known that such record of consistent loyalty to the American Legion merits the honor of being cited as an outstanding contributor to the programs of the American Legion.”
The certificate is signed by the American Legion National Commander, Michael D. Helm, National Adjutant Daniel S. Wheeler and the Luverne Post Officer, Edward Stearns.
Stearns, along with local American Legion members Fred Cook and Jay Mann, presented Luethje with his certificate in June.
Luethje was modest about his contributions to the organization but said he’s always supported the mission of the American Legion.
“The American Legion was chartered and incorporated by Congress in 1919 as a patriotic veterans organization devoted to mutual helpfulness,” according to the group’s website.
“It is the nation’s largest wartime veterans service organization, committed to mentoring youth and sponsorship of wholesome programs in our communities, advocating patriotism and honor, promoting strong national security, and continued devotion to our fellow service members and veterans.”
