Friends and neighbors of Randy and Bonnie Muller joined forces last week to help with the Mullers’ 2020 soybean harvest after Bonnie was hospitalized with lung cancer.
Randy said the harvest help took some pressure off his schedule as he balanced time between the fields near Jasper and the hospital in Sioux Falls.
“I sure appreciate it,” he said. “It’s really good of them to do that.”
He said Bonnie finished radiation treatment two weeks ago but then came down with pneumonia and has required hospitalization to recover.
“She was flabbergasted by all the people who care,” Muller said. “It’s overwhelming is what it is.”
At one point there were eight combines, four grain carts and roughly 10 trucks and semis operating at one time in the Muller fields. Randy thought he counted nearly 30 people who helped in some way or another.
“There were so many guys that showed up, and some left before the photo was taken,” Muller said.
“I wish I could recognize everyone who helped. Quite a few had beans of their own in the field, so it was really generous of them to be there.”
On Monday, he said Bonnie’s condition was slowly improving and he hoped she would soon be moved from acute care. “We’d really like to get her home,” he said.
