Trenton Bass, a senior at Hills-Beaver Creek, remains hospitalized from a serious neck injury he suffered Friday night Sept. 8 during a high school football game in Mountain Lake.
Supporters around the region are following his recovery, and his mother, Missy Bass, shared a Facebook update Sunday, Sept. 17.
“We ask that you pray Trenton’s blood pressure stays up so they can take him off the meds that are keeping it up,” she said. “We ask that his body can adapt without meds so he can heal on his own.”
She said they’re hoping Trenton’s picc line can be removed soon so that he can progress more efficiently with physical therapy.
“Also, we ask that God leads us to the rehab facility that we are supposed to be at,” she wrote. “We are truly relying on his lead. So pray that it is clear to us and we are all at peace with it.”
Doctors have restricted visits, but Missy said Trenton asked her to post that he’s working to get better. “He loves seeing you all,” she wrote. “God bless you all.”
In her Facebook post, she shared a Bible verse from Philippians 3:13: “I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before.”
She also shared a prayer from her daily devotion.
“My Lord, thank you for encouraging our hearts. Thank you for helping us see how life goes on,” she wrote.
“Our world doesn’t come to an end just because of the situations we face. Keep teaching us, Lord, how to move forward from disappointment and how to walk in newness of life.”
Missy told her friends that she feels God’s support.
“He is with us, carrying us through all of this.  He is doing that through all of you who are praying fervently for Trenton and us,” she said. “Thank you again and keep the prayers coming.”
Fundraisers are underway in the community and area school districts.
For example, a golf tournament is planned for Saturday, a Facebook auction is underway.
Luverne School District donated gate receipts from the Sept. 12 volleyball game with H-BC. That amounted to $1,370, and it was matched by $5,000 from Exchange State Bank.
