Hup finalist for South Dakota Trooper of Year
Luverne native Daniel Hup was among three finalists considered for Trooper of the Year recognition in the South Dakota State Patrol.
The annual award recognizes leadership and professionalism in the patrol.
Hup and his wife, Maria, and his parents, Dave and Teresa Hup, traveled last month to the awards ceremony in Rapid City where the Trooper of the Year was announced.
While he wasn’t ultimately selected, the ceremony did recognize the two runners-up for the award.
“The citizens of South Dakota and those traveling through our state are very fortunate to have a Trooper like Dan Hup keeping them safe,” said Sgt. Josh Olson, who said Hup regularly goes above and beyond the call of duty.
“Trooper Hup’s professionalism is next to none,” Olson said. “Trooper Hup has made it a priority to treat the public and assisting agencies with the upmost respect.”
Hup joined the South Dakota State Patrol in 2011. He is a 2008 graduate of Luverne High School and 2010 graduate of Alexandria Technical and Community College.
