The population of Hills swelled over the weekend to welcome hundreds of visitors for the town’s celebration of its 125th anniversary.
The quasquicentennial party was timed with the town’s annual Friendship Days weekend, so there were the usual parades, games, food vendors and festivities.
In addition, volunteers hosted a meet and greet at the school, where some classes chose to organize class reunions.
Among those volunteers was Marilyn Nelson, who also helped with the parade and other weekend events.
“It was so much fun seeing everyone again,” Nelson later posted on Facebook. “Thank you to those who made the effort to come home.”
She thanked everyone who helped make the weekend a success. “It took tons of people to pull this off,” she said.
Leading the charge were volunteers with “Helping Build Communities Stronger,” which has formed in place of the former Community Club.
“I don't know about everyone else, but I had a super great time this weekend,” Nelson said, thanking those who helped and those who participated in the parade.
“It was so much fun seeing everyone again. .... Thank you to those who made the effort to come home. … We are truly blessed to have the people in Hills, Beaver Creek and Steen.”
