Saturday’s Fly-In or Drive-In Pancake Breakfast was deemed a success by event organizers.
“Without having an event for seven years, 281 plates is exceeding expectations,” said airport manager Ben Baum.
While it was easy to keep track of the pancake plates handed out, counting the number of airplanes coming and going from Quentin Aanenson Field south of Luverne wasn’t as easy.
Baum estimated more than 20 planes came and went during the five-hour event that began at 7 a.m.
The clear, sunny morning garnered 60 classic cars to park on the airport’s lawn.
Sponsored by the Luverne Municipal Airport Board and Sierra Delta Aviation, the event was meant to bring an awareness and appreciation for the local airport.
The last fly-in event was in 2009, and the classic car drive-in was a new feature this year.
Scheduling the next fly-in or drive-in will be discussed at an upcoming airport board meeting, Baum said. The group will decide if the new and revitalized event will be staged annually or every other year.
