Three representatives from Hills-Beaver Creek Elementary School traveled to National Harbor, Maryland, last week for the 2019 Blue Ribbon Schools recognition ceremony.
H-BC Elementary was honored as an “exemplary high performing” school, based on the third- through fifth-grade students’ Minnesota Comprehensive Assessment scores for 2018.
Superintendent Todd Holthaus and teachers Shelly Fischer and Halden Van Wyhe attended the ceremony from the H-BC School District.
“Being recognized under the national spotlight was pleasing and affirming,” Holthaus said.
“The pleasing piece is knowing that this one year our school was recognized knowing that there are other deserving schools out there. The affirmation comes from the satisfaction of knowing all the hard work by parents, staff and students was noticed.”
H-BC Elementary was one of 10 Minnesota schools chosen as a Blue Ribbon school for 2019.
They were among 351 public and nonpublic schools receiving a flag and a plaque at the Nov. 14-15 ceremony hosted by the U.S. Department of Education.
H-BC Elementary School will celebrate its National Blue Ribbon School designation with the public today (Thursday) with an evening open house in Beaver Creek.
The hourlong event begins at 6:30 p.m. with a short presentation followed by refreshments.
